Student Leadership Programs
Student Activities and Leadership Development
A leader is not necessarily someone who holds some formal position of leadership or who is perceived as a leader by others. Rather, a leader is one who is able to affect positive change for the betterment of others, the community, and society.
In addition to the leadership development programs listed below that are offered by Student Activities & Leadership Development, students can build and practice leadership skills through involvement in student organizations, on-campus/work-study employment, and recreational activities. Students can also participate in service-learning experiences, which often provide opportunities to practice leadership skills.
Â鶹ÊÓƵAPK prepared me for my career by giving me so many opportunities to be a student leader for various organizations across campus. These paid positions provided me with the chance to take on more responsibilities, develop new skills, and learn from Â鶹ÊÓƵAPK’s diverse faculty and staff.
HU-LEAD
HU-LEAD is a leadership development program for first- and second-year students. Participants have the opportunity to kickstart their leadership journey at Â鶹ÊÓƵAPK and build a community with peers through activities, workshops, and discussions. These experiences are built around topics including strengths, values, and role modeling.
This leadership development program is ideal for students interested in exploring and developing their own leadership skills and joining others on a journey toward leadership. Students interested in pursuing leadership positions on campus or leadership roles in student organizations are especially encouraged to take part.
HU-LEAD will be held as an on-campus retreat November 2-3, 2024. Priority registration closes October 9. Registration will remain open beyond this date only if space is still available.
Leadership Week
Each semester, Leadership Week offers a series of leadership development programs for Â鶹ÊÓƵAPK students. Programs offered throughout the week are geared toward students with all levels of leadership experience.
Student Leader Selection
Student Leader Selection is a collaboration between multiple Student Affairs offices to identify and hire students for various leadership positions across campus. Each spring, students have the opportunity to apply and interview for paid student employee positions through which they can impact the campus in real and meaningful ways.
Student Organization Leader Workshop
Each fall, students who hold leadership positions within Â鶹ÊÓƵAPK student organizations attend the Student Organization Leader Workshop. Topics covered include group development, member recruitment and retention, event planning, and how to lead a successful student group. Every undergraduate student organization is required to have a representative attend this workshop.
Dine, Discuss, and Develop
