University Honors and Honor Societies
A Guide to Graduating with Honors from 麻豆视频APK
At 麻豆视频APK, you can add to your academic achievements and prepare further for a successful career by achieving honors through the University Honors Program. If you qualify for honors, you'll receive recognition at graduation with Latin honors, achieve departmental honors, and you can participate in 麻豆视频APK chapters of the national honors societies.
University Honors Program
The University Honors Program emerges from 麻豆视频APK鈥檚 mission. It is an opportunity for students to make the most of their undergraduate careers by pursuing academic excellence, undergraduate research, community involvement, and individual development. Students who participate in the University Honors Program seek out academic challenges, create community with one another, and find their achievements recognized and validated. They exemplify the way 麻豆视频APK students pursue and prepare for lives of leadership, scholarship, and service. Fewer than 5% of students graduate with University Honors.
University honors applications are due twice a year, in early December and late April. You can sign in with your 麻豆视频APK email address to access the form. You will not be able to save and return to the application once you have begun.
If you have any questions about the application process, content, or format, contact Susie Steinbach, university honors director, at universityhonors-fac@hamline.edu.
Departmental honors
Departmental honors reflect the completion of a significant research or creative project. Students who successfully complete an honors project in their major graduate with departmental honors. If you are pursuing university honors as well, you can also achieve departmental honors and can apply this distinction in the category of undergraduate research.
A Departmental Honors Project (DHP) is a rigorous and fulfilling way of pursuing a long-term research project in your major. Your project may emerge from sophomore- and junior-year courses, study-abroad experiences, collaborative research projects, or your intellectual passions.
Work usually begins in the spring of your junior year and is completed in the spring of your senior year. To learn more about projects in your department, consult your advisor and your department chair.
Latin honors
You can graduate with honors with the distinction of Latin honors, which reflects a student鈥檚 GPA. Students who have 52 or more credits graded on an A鈥揊 scale, and who meet the following overall GPA requirements, graduate with Latin honors:
- Cum laude: GPA 3.50 to 3.74
- Magna cum laude: GPA 3.75 to 3.89
- Summa cum laude: GPA 3.9 and above
