Created by educators for educators, Â鶹ÊÓƵAPK’s Environmental Education Certificate provides you with a mix of introductory environmental education concepts, teaching methodology and best practices, issues, and actions, as well as a broad selection of content-specific courses. You’ll learn how to:
- Interpret environmental education research to inform your curricula
- Make environment-based curricular connections across disciplines like science, humanities, history, mathematics, and English language arts
- Engage learners in stewardship, science, and advocacy for a sustainable future
- Ground your understanding of environmental issues in a framework of equity and justice
The program's place-based courses travel with you when you leave the classroom. You'll apply the tools you learned to your local and regional resources to learn about the environment wherever you are.

Start dates and application deadlines
We review applications on a rolling basis, meaning you can apply and start your Environmental Education Certificate at three separate times throughout the year. To ensure your spot, we recommend applying at least six weeks before the term you want to start.
Environmental Education Certificate program format
Â鶹ÊÓƵAPK's Environmental Education Certificate is offered entirely online. Some individual classes may meet synchronously online (at a set scheduled time) on a weekday evening. You can choose coursework that is entirely online, or that offers in-person field experience opportunities that you can complete where you live and work.
Time to complete your Environmental Education Certificate

Environmental Education Certificate courses
There are no preselected courses required as part of the Environmental Education Certificate. Instead, you will need to complete five NSED classes 7000-level worth a total of 10 credits to achieve your certification.

Apply
Applying to the Environmental Education Certificate program is simple and only required if this is the first certificate you’ve applied for at Â鶹ÊÓƵAPK or if you are not enrolled in another Â鶹ÊÓƵAPK School of Education degree or certificate program.
- Online application (no fee)
- Official transcript of a bachelor’s degree with a GPA of at least 2.5 from a regionally accredited college or university
- Send directly from the institution to Graduate Admission or provided in a sealed, signed envelope, and official electronic transcripts should be emailed from the institution to gradprog@hamline.edu
- You do not have to supply transcripts for courses taken at Â鶹ÊÓƵAPK
