PSA: REAL ID Required for Air Travel Starting May 7, 2025

Beginning May 7, 2025, individuals 18 years of age and older will need a Real ID-compliant driver’s license or other approved form of identification to board commercial flights within the United States. A standard driver’s license will no longer be accepted at airport security checkpoints.

Alternative acceptable documents include:

  • A Minnesota enhanced driver’s license
  • A valid U.S. passport
  • A valid foreign government-issued passport

REAL ID-compliant licenses feature a gold star in the upper corner.

Anyone planning to travel by air who does not yet have a REAL ID or alternative approved identification should begin the process or make alternative travel arrangements to avoid delays or disruptions.
