Gio Veliz, a graduate of the Doctorate in Management and Public Service (DMPS) program and a Center for Public Administration and Leadership Fellow, co-authored an article entitled 鈥淓nhancing Police Services in Immigrant Communities: The Successful Use of U and T Visas in San Francisco and Minneapolis,鈥 in Police Chief Online, August 21, 2024. Dr. Veliz and his coauthors discussed tools to enhance trust and legitimacy between marginalized communities and public safety in Minneapolis and San Francisco, as well as using the U and T visa programs as important crime-fighting tools to encourage victims to stay engaged with the police throughout the years it can take for a case to close. Dr. Veliz spent thirty years as a Police Commander and is a national expert on keeping immigrant communities safe.
