Senior Lecturer of Biology Kathy Burleson received a travel award from the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society to present at their 37th annual conference in Albuquerque in May. Burleson's workshop, "Who do we represent? Student choice and diversity content analysis of A&P textbook images," shared her research exploring the diversity of textbook images of the human body. The findings revealed significant gaps in representation across sex, race, body size, age and ability. The talk was well-attended by authors and publishing company representatives, and Burleson is hopeful her research will improve diversity of representation in future A&P textbook editions.
